MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR
May 26, 2005
Rev. W. Thomas Faucher, Pastor
Welcome to the website for Saint Mary’s Parish, Boise, Idaho. Saint
Mary’s is a truly great and vibrant community of faith-filled men,
women, and children. I have the great honor of both growing up in Saint
Mary’s Parish and now coming back and being the pastor.
Saint Mary’s was founded in 1937 as the city of Boise began
to grow too large for just the cathedral parish. Bishop Edward J.
Kelly, then the Bishop of Boise, was criticized for making it so far out
of town, bordering on 28th Street, the city limits. It was
then and still is a big parish geographically, taking in much of the
“north end” of Boise, as well as all of Garden City.
Saint Mary’s has always had a great devotion for the poor,
probably because Saint Mary’s has never been a wealthy parish. One of
the two great jewels in the crown of Saint Mary’s is the Parish Food
Bank, which distributes tons and tons of food to those in need every
year.
The other crown jewel is Saint Mary’s school (of which I am
a proud graduate.) Since 1948 Saint Mary’s School has provided
exceptional education in the context of a warm and caring Catholic
environment.
These are busy times at Saint Mary’s as we prepare to
renovate and expand our church building. Our future is going to be very good, filled with the grace
and goodness of God.
Peace,
Fr. Tom Faucher, Pastor
