Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is a spiritual journey in faith to discover what it means to follow Jesus as a Catholic Christian and the joy and freedom that can result from journeying with Christ. Every year adults are welcomed into the Catholic Community through Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. It is a learning and loving process in which conversion of the heart brings you to Jesus Christ who is our Lord and Savior.

Come to me, all you who are weary and find life burdensome, and I will refresh you. Take My yoke upon your shoulders and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble of heart. Your soul will find rest, for My yoke is easy and My burden light. (Matthew 11:28 – 30)

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults program will assist you through four “periods” of your conversion:

† Period of Evangelization and Precatechumenate – A time of inquiry and hearing the first preaching of the Gospel. The period ends with the Rite of Acceptance where the Church accepts your intention to respond to further conversion and follow the way of Christ.

† Period of Catechumenate – A time for growth in faith and conversion celebrated with the entire community. The final act of this period is the Election or Enrollment of Names where the Church formally ratifies your readiness for the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist) and you express the will to receive the sacraments.

† Period of Purification and Enlightenment – A time for more intense spiritual preparation assisted by celebration of the scrutinies and presentations. The final celebration is the Easter Vigil Mass where you are fully joined to the Church by celebrating the initiation sacraments with the entire community.

† Period of Mystagogy – Post baptismal catechesis following the celebrations of initiation. You will experience being fully part of the Catholic Church Community and participate in the Sunday Eucharistic celebration.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults classes begin in early September and culminate with the celebration of Easter Vigil. Inquiries about starting can be made at any time.
